Calvin began playing the conga drums during the mid seventies. From then, until the mid nineties he worked with a number of cultural / folkloric groups such as the Liberation Dancers, the Empress Menen Dance Troupe, West Indian Association Folk Singers and
The Fiery Limbo Dancers with Marlene Minks and Piece Of The Rock big band with Hiram Edwards. More recently, Calvin has been working on projects with MGC Productions and Va Va Entertainment. He has worked with various popular local dance and jazz bands. He is currently a member of the trio, Atlantic Music Group, a unique trio consisting of double bass, violin and Cuban percussion whose repertoire includes, Latin, Jazz and Pop. He has studied percussion theory with the Bermuda Drum Academy under the tutelage of Kevin Maybury and in Cuba with several percussion instructors, focusing on technique, rhythms and instruments featured in the popular Cuban dance styles. He has conducted classes at the Simons Music School, the Community Education and Development Programme, after school programmes, summer day camps at primary school level and workshops with the Bermuda Union of Teachers.
